The Fund endeavors to provide the best possible benefits for union members when they retire. The Fund offers the following for its participants:
- Normal pension at age 65 with 5 years of service, including 36 months of contributions.
- Early reduced pension at age 55 to 65 with 5 years of service including 36 months of contributions.
- Vested deferred pension provided after 5 years of service including 36 months of contributions.
- Cash Withdrawal benefits payable prior to vesting – 10% to 50%, depending on the length of service.
- Death Benefit – 10% to 50% depending on length of service
- Thirty-six months of pension payments guaranteed once a participant starts receiving pension or when he passes age 65 and continues working and would have been eligible for his pension when he dies.
- Disability pension at any age with the minimum requirement of 5 years and 36 months of contributions.
- Joint and Survivor Annuity Benefit option available upon retirement
- Pre-Retirement Survivor Annuity Benefit for surviving spouse.
In order to participate in the UFW Pension Fund, an employer must have a collective bargaining agreement with a CWA local union. Participation must be on an all-inclusive basis for the bargaining unit employees (no one can be excluded). All contributions to the Fund are made by the employer. The Fund does not accept individual contributions. The contribution rates can be submitted based on a percentage of gross payroll, flat rate per month, or on the basis of cents per hour worked.
